Colourful!

This photo was taken in July. Becky took part in the local Moonlight Colourthon. Over one thousand people took part all raising money for a charity of their own choice.

Becky (one the left) decided to walk for Cancer research. They walkers all set off in the evening and had to be as colourful as possible. Once it was dark they had light wands and glowing bracelets so it was a real sight to see for all the onlookers.

Becky does a fair bit of walking but had only done about seven miles at one hit before. This Colourthon was a thirteen mile walk so it was a challenge for her. She completed it and received her medal at the end where Dean and the boys were waiting to pick her up. We were all so proud of her and she raised quite a bit out of sponsorship. She has received a nice letter from Cancer research thanking her.

We have not had much of a summer, a few days of blistering heat now and again followed by days of heavy rain or dull overcast skies. I am glad Mike only planted a few tubs of flowers this year.

I am into a new author - Gervais Phinn. He has written a series of books about his life as a Schools Inspector in the Yorkshire Dales. They are absolutely hilarious. He has also made a couple of "live" C.D.'s. I can thoroughly recommend him.

Now I am off to have a nice cup of tea and to listen to Radio 4 plus as they run a lot of old radio programmes, thrillers, crime dramas and plays. Hardly anything worth watching on the t.v. these days.

Have a good week everyone.

  2. Good to hear from you again Jeannette. We have a walk similar to your Colourthon here in the US. It's called Relay For Life..raising money for Breast Cancer Research. After a very rainy Spring we are finally having some summer weather. We haven't had any rain now for several weeks. So I'm out dragging hoses around or setting out sprinklers everyday, keeping things watered. We've had few days where it got up in the high 80's but the last week or so it's been in the mid 70's (PERFECT!) I don't do well with the high temps. I'd actually like to see a day of rain once in awhile so I could have a break. Take care & look forward to hearing from you again.

  3. Good for Becky doing that long walk and raising money for such a good cause. Our summer has been a hot and wet and humid one here. Temps were way above average for July and August is usually our hotest month of the year. It remains to be seen how it will go. The TV rarely has much to offer us either but I've not heard of a radio station here like the one you enjoy so I don't think we have anything like that offered here. That does sound like fun. Good to see your post today!

  6. Good on Becky, and all her sponsors..There are so many midnight charity walks now that surely a cure for some cancers is getting nearer. My niece is going to cycle from Paris to Geneva next year for Pancreatic Cancer Research (my Brother in law her Dad died last year from that and the death rate has not dropped for over 20 years so the need all the money possible to ty to get some treatment that works even if only to prolong life for a bit)
So glad to see you back with us. We have had it very humid here as well this last week but much fresher yesterday when we had torrential rain and thunder in afternoon..and cooler this morning..
take care much Love Sybil xx

  11. I loved the outfit Becky wore to the Colourthon. The skirt especially. Love that green. Congrats to her for going the extra miles for a good cause. That's quite an accomplishment. Your radio programs sound wonderful. Nothing like that here. You're right nothing much on TV at night. In the daytime, I love my soap operas. Glad you found an author you like. ENJOY the book. I'm fond of Isla Dewar. One of these days going to tackle her book Izzy's War. So nice to see you blogging again. I enjoy your words.
