Bonfire Night and Mr. Obama

Photobucket
Yes, it is that time of the year again. All hell will break loose tonight with bonfire parties and fireworks going off all around us. Last night was bad enough but tonight will be worse.

I wonder how different things would have been had Guy Fawkes actually succeeded in blowing up parliament and killing the King and all his ministers those hundreds of years ago? We shall never know. Strange though that we still celebrate this failure of a possible devastating explosion by making millions of explosions of our own!
So, America has a new President. Congratulations to Mr. Obama. Let us hope and pray that he will be a good leader. The reputation of America suffered greatly throughout the world under the leadership of George Bush. Bridges need to be built, damage repaired. We need to work together in harmony and trust. With good advisors around him, a dedication to hard work - and providing he keeps promises made during the campaign, he might just be the man to do that.
To those that did not vote for him. Now is the time to put differences behind you, stand as a nation and give the new leader your support. Change is often a good thing.
Thank you for all your good wishes. I shall be back commenting on your journals - yes journals, I hate the word blog, when I am fully over this bug and feeling better.
To those in the U.K. please keep your animals safe, make sure they are indoors, draw your curtains, shut all your doors and keep the noise to a minimum for them.
I was happy to see that I had been chosen as the weekly winner for Val's sentence competition, here is the link - There is a Season Thanks to the judges for picking me, I know there were some great contributions.
I hope you are all having a good week.

  2. In my trivia for the day I read about your holiday today. I'm sure people are still celebrating it because they love fireworks. We have them here the 4th of July and it's the same for the animals. Hope you are feeling better and thank you for the kind words for our President elect. He has a big job ahead of him if he does it right. 'On Ya'-ma

  3. I'm in mourning right now. I will likely get over it but it is so hard. I think the most disheartening thing for me is that Mr. Obama was largely voted in because of his race. I think it is wonderful that we now have a black president. I just don't think this man is the right man. Hope that makes sense.

Thank you so very much for your kind and open minded comments about our new President that I worked so hard for on the campaign. And you are right, people who did not vote for President Obama need to come together as a nation to start our hard journey on repair. This morning I'm still very emotional and quick to tear over this amazng victory. Las Vegas is still celebrating, along with the rest of the world and USA.
    Today: YES WE CAN!
    Congradultions on winning :)

    Huggers,

  13. Hi Jeanette. Glad to hear you're on the mend. I guess any excuse for fireworks but they do nothing for me. Yes, this new president has his work cut out for him and I do hope he has plenty of honest people to help him :).......

  14. Oh Jeanette I hope you feel better soon. I really appreciate your comments on our new President. I'm of the same mind if he can keep his promises we will be on the right track. It does help that we have friends across the pond pulling for him too...love, Sandi

  16. I hope you're feeling a lot better now Jeannette. I'm afraid if there's a thunderstorm or fireworks both my cats are up at the window to watch! No good pulling curtains, they pull them back to get their grandstand seat! Lol! I'd much rather them be like that than afraid of the noise. I always call my journal a journal. Blog is only a corruption of web log; I don't like it either! Jeannette xx
