Just a quick entry from me. We were sitting reading the newspapers this morning when the phone rang. It was a withheld number which we knew was strange.
Mike answered it. It was the hospital. Could he come in right away for the operation on his other eye! We had expected it early in the new year. However, the eye department run a system whereby if they have any cancellations, they ring around to see if anybody else can come in and take the appointment even at the shortest notice.
They wanted a yes or no right then and there. I took the phone and double-checked that he would not be able to drive himself home. They said that was the case. So I explained that we would have to make arrangements for transportation, that either our daughter might be able to take him or we would ring for a taxi. But they had to allow time for that, plus travelling time to the hospital.
The upshot was they asked if he could be there within the hour. I agreed that would be possible.
So, off he has gone. By now he could well be undergoing surgery. He had only just finished putting all the eye drops in the first eye and now will have to start all over again.
Naturally I am sitting here worrying about him, that is only natural. It is good he has not had to wait but it has all come as a bit of a shock and will be even more so for the dogs. They will not be able to go out today for the first time ever. Last time, Mike knew when he was going in, so he gave the dogs an hours run across the fields. This time it all happened so fast that was not possible. They know the times they go out and will start whining and getting excited. Being put in the garden will just not be the same for them.
Also Mike will not be able to drive for a few days. I ask you all to wish him well and pray that all goes as smoothly as it did before. I will not be happy until he is home again.
The up side to this is Mike didnt have time to worry about his op this time ,of course I wish him well and Im sure the dogs will understand ,it must be nerve racking for you by your self ,I hope he is home again soon ,and all goes well ..love Jan xx

Hi Jeannette
ReplyDeleteI am sure Mike will be fine, my OH had ops on both eyes a number of years ago and touch wood, everything is still fine even though he needed further laser treatment on one of them. At least it will be over with now and it didn't give him any time to worry, did it? Even though I know he will be fine, I will keep him in my prayers as I do your whole family. Hope the dogs don't get too boisterous without their long walk. Animals tend to be very sensitive though, so they may "know" something has happened and understand. I hope so, or they will drive you nuts! Best wishes to you and yours for a Happy New Year Jeannette.
