C&D stated: "It provides an excellent combination of performance and economy." "It's a car for all occasions." Car and Driver in a 1972 Super Coupes test including the Vega GT, Pinto Runabout, Opel 1900 Rallye, parts of alternator Mazda RX-2, Capri 2000 and Toyota Celica said: "...If looks alone determined the best Super coupe, the Vega GT would win hands down without ever turning a wheel." Car and Driver readers voted the alternator for sale Vega "Best Economy Sedan" three years in a row (19711973) in its Annual Reader's Choice Poll. In 1971, the Vega's first year on the market, it managed to unseat the incumbent import, breaking its eight year winning streak. Motor Trend magazine in its August 1970 issue said: "...the Vega GT comes close to what a racing GT car should be, in handling, performance and comfort.
