Catching Up

The funeral went off very well. I did not attend but the hearse stopped outside here and I went out said my last goodbyes and then held my own service here at home, following the order of service exactly. It was all the more poignant because Audrey was buried on her Birthday and we could not help but remember all the Birthdays in the past.

Mike did attend and he should not have done so really. He went down with what he thought was a bad cold or possibly flu. The church was freezing cold and our local cemetery is on top of a hill and the winds were bitter. However, he wanted to be there representing both of us. The flowers were beautiful although the rabbits have already had a go at them.

Anyway Mike was so rough yesterday that I insisted he saw the doctor today. He was due to see him about his ear anyway, the doctor was going to blast the wax out for him. Anyway, he got back a little while ago. He has a severe chest infection and the doctor told him he was lucky, at his age, that it had not turned to pneumonia. He is on strong anti-biotics and has to take things easily. The doctor reckons he caught it visiting my brother in hospital where several of the patients were coughing themselves senseless.

The doctor said his blood tests can wait. He only wanted them re-done because a little something was out in the results and he (the doctor) now knows what that little something was, this infection.

My brother is behaving better at this time but we still have him on the phone as least four times a day for an hour at a time. This situation will resolve itself one way or another and I have put it in God's hands.

As for me, I have been so tired through all the stress and strain but hopefully will pick up soon.

Apart from that there is little to tell you. I think we all find it hard to believe that Audrey has gone, she bounced back from the brink so many times. However difficult my brother is, I know he is grieving very badly and men are not so good at letting things out.

We got a new phone today and are waiting for it to fully charge. Digital phones have lots of functions, our old one did but you cannot beat the old style phone really, the ones with the cords on because they never ran out of charge and always worked unless the phone lines came down.

I hope to be able to get back to my proper writing soon.

In the meantime I wish you all a peaceful and happy weekend.

  1. You have done very well, Jeannette, in dealing with all that has come your way in recent times. I hope Mike recovers quickly, hospitals are very bad for catching nasty bugs. Wishing you both strength in times to come,

  4. I'll be saying a little prayer that Mike is better soon and that your brother can find some peace and not burden you so. After the stress of every thing you both need to rest. Things like that can wear on us more than we know sometimes. Take good care!

  6. I agree with Guido, you have done well! Loosing a family member or close friend is always a difficult thing. I can only imagine what your brother is feeling. I remember how my dad was after my mom passed away...he was truly a lost soul and in need of so much comfort. Sending prayers that Mike will have a quick recovery. Thank heavens for antibiotics! Take care of yourself and get lots of rest...Linda in Washington state

  8. It`s good to hear that all went well at the funeral but I`m sorry to hear that Mike is so poorly, thank goodness you did the right thing and insisted he saw the doctor. As you say, the chest infection could so easily have become pneumonia. I know you`ll see to it that Mike gets the rest he needs to recover properly. Please give him our love and tell him we hope he feels much better soon.

    Love and Hugs

  19. I'm sorry to hear about Mike's chest infection, lucky he got antibiotics in time or it could have been much worse. Saying prayers for you all and your brother, it must have hit him hard but as you say, men don't show their feelings over such things. Jeannette xx
