Rain, Rain, Go Away

Photobucket

After all the snow, came the rain. The ground was already waterlogged from the snow melt. We have had twenty-four hours of heavy rain (thankfully it has stopped for the moment). In some parts of Essex there are flood warnings in place and people are being issued with sandbags. Luckily, we are not in that position.

Snow or rain, him indoors still has to take the dogs out. As Collies like to run, that means the local fields so you can imagine the state that they are in when they return. They have to be washed down in the bath.

Jack is so funny, after the first couple of times, he soon learned that he cannot stay covered in mud. Now he runs straight to the bathroom and jumps in the bath all by himself before Mike even has the chance to shut the front door. There he stands, patiently waiting, whilst Mike takes off his outdoor clothes and shoes.

You can see for yourselves the amount of dirt on him. He does not mind in the least. Jess, on the other hand, seems to wonder why he has to go through that every time and his expression shows it.

It also means a major clean-up of the bathroom every time since they shake themselves and you can imagine the state of the bath. You can see some of it around the top. However, we love our dogs and it is all part of keeping them so we do not mind.

Heavy rain is nothing compared to what those poor devils in Australia have had to contend with. It is horrible. People burned to death in their cars, husbands/wives who have lost the rest of their families. Their homes destroyed along with all their precious possessions accumulated over many years. Homes can be rebuilt but lives cannot be recovered and neither can special personal possessions such as photographs and keepsakes. To think that some of the fires were started deliberately defies belief. My heart goes out to them.

I had someone contact me about the family tree as I have put some of the information on Genes Reunited. However, I could tell he was fishing for information and I was correct. I answered him and told him I would be happy to share information with him if he could tell me what the connection was between his family and mine and also agree to share any information with me. I was not surprised that I did not receive a reply.

There are people who think they can just lift your many years of family research, are prepared to give nothing in return. I worked long and hard on it and spent a considerable amount of money. Whilst I am delighted if I ever find a definite relation, I am not prepared to give out information willy nilly to anyone who asks.

Well, that is about all for now. I shall endeavour to catch up on all your journals over the next couple of days.

Have a good week, dear friends and readers.

  2. Your dogs are so smart. It is muddier then all get out here with all the snow melting and then rain all day yesterday, I usually dip Zoeys feet in warm water when she comes in, the things we do for our pets, LOL. I feel so terrible for the people in Australia. It is just so sad.

  3. No doubt after all the snow and now this rain, they will be calling for a hosepipe ban this summer! Jesse's face says a thousand words in that picture, bring on the Bubbles says Jack! The devastation in Australia is absolutely terrible and my thoughts are with all those who have lost physical possessions and those who have lost loved ones, friends and neighbours. The terror of all those who tried and failed to escape the flames is unimaginable. Love B x

  4. I have never seen a dog run for the bath like that before. What a joy he is!!! For many years I did the same, cleaning up after the mud. Only reason I ever dreaded Spring...but those days are over for me now. I would not want to give out any info with out some knowlege of who it was going to either. It's grand to find a connection, but in this day and age there are too many scams out there. We have a warmer day and rain coming, but will be back to cold and snow later in the week they say. 5. My dog would be more like Jess, LOL.

I too, felt so sad for the those that have lost so much in Australia. I hope they prosecute the perps to the fullest extent of their law. It is a terrible, terrible tragedy.

  6. No way would my Sadie get in the tub by herself! She does stand still and let me wipe off her feet, though. We're dry here, so that isn't necessary right now.

  7. so sorry about all the rain, dear friend. wish the australians could get some of it, for sure. how sad.

i cannot stop laughing over your poor doggies. yep, you can definitely tell jess cannot figure out why he cannot stay dirty. yet jack is ready willing and able to get the business started.....knowing it will all happen again in a few hours, lol.

i am also sorry that someone tried to scam you over your genetic research. one can never be too careful. i am so glad you had the forsight to know he could be a scammer. good for you.

i am slowly getting over the flu and have to return to work tomorrow after being off for the last 6 days. not sure how i feel about going back to work. haven't been out of the house for 4 of those days. i will catch up on the rest of your journal that i might have already read and didn't comment on.

be blessed, my overseas friend. good to hear from you always.

  11. Hi Jeannette, now the deluge is over I only hope the flooded roads improve by tomorrow. Getting to work today might have been easier had I gone by boat! I`m just grateful that my car made the journey. The Australian fires are absolutely dreadful, those poor people. Even worse that they were most likely started on purpose. How can anyone do such a thing.... Well done to Jack and even the reluctant Jesse, the chances of that happening with Jake are zero...lol! Jim was lucky in that he was contacted by a distant family member who exchanged useful with him, thankfully we haven`t been had anyone who just wanted to use his hard work.

    Love and Hugs

  13. Please send us some of your moisture. We are bone dry here in Texas. We have had a couple of showers the last couple of days and I see people standing outside in the rain--enjoying what little we are getting.

  14. I am heartbroken for the souls in Australia. I cannot even imagine trying to pick up the pieces after going through what they've endured.

How cute about Jack going straight to the bathtub!! That is precious. I do see that Jess is not at all too happy about it. I know what your bathroom looks like after they are bathed...I too bath mine in our guest bathroom and it is a mess to say the least! Wet walls & floor and usually I've had just as much of a bath!! But as you say, it is what we do with our beloved babies.

Nice to see a post, hope the weather gets better for you.

  15. Dogs' reaction to bath. That was really cute. One looks eager, the other resigned. Well, you are conscientious owners. But these look like enjoyable dogs. It does sound wet where you are, and we are enjoying some rare very wet weather here in Arizona, too. I tried to comment on your snow photos which I really enjoyed but my comment never would take I hope this one does!

  16. It is such a terrible tragedy and hope the one who caused this will be caught. My dad is wanting rain for his garden but the wind is just going nuts here and very little mist. I love the pics of your Jack & Jess. I'm amazed that he runs to the bathtub and gets in. How CUTE!! :).......

  20. Hi Jeannette, we had the same thing happen here in western Washington. Heavy snow fall and then warm temperatures with heavy rain. I know of one young couple you live along a small creek. The river that fed the creek flooded, causing the creek to become a river itself and it washed away 1/3 of their pasture land and ther horse barn. Thankfully they were able to save their 2 horses. Also many houses and mobile homes flooded beyond repair. I'm so glad I live in an aea that doesn't flood. And I'm happy you folks are high & dry too. Jack & Jess probably have figured out that if they don't get cleaned up after each walk, there might not be anymore walks. Such sweet pups they are. Linda in Washington but commenting today from British Columbia.

  21. The rain has been terrible no flood warnings in my area but there have been some in Chelmsford, prefer the rain to the snow though at least I can get out and about.

    Take care

  22. Yes I am saddened about those in Australia!! I am sending prayers up. We had storms and rain here in KY too. The ice storm seems like it was months ago even though it was just barely two weeks ago. Yes I am familiar with the work it takes to clean up the dogs in these winter months. We keep towels by the back door. I cannot wait to remove our carpet and put in wood floors so it will be easier. Much hugs,
    Lisa

  23. I love the dogs! You really captured their expressions well! As for the one that just wanted you info, I don't blame you. As for finding out about my family, I am at a loss. It is frustrating to hit a dead end at just 1 generation! I do have my maternal grandfather traced back to Europe into the 1400's I believe
