Fore! Err No - Fire!

Photobucket

Another lovely day here. The mist is now burning off and the sun is starting to shine brightly and the leaves are really starting to turn now. It was very warm yesterday also. However, it will not last. Tomorrow we are set to return to strong cold winds and rain.

I am still hoping that something can be done to save my comments. As you know my old journal did transfer and was combined with the new one. However, when I checked, all my comments had disappeared. Over four years of them including all the wonderful comments I received last year when I went through that awful time with my diagnosis and treatment. I decided that there was only one thing that I could do. Transfer the journal again. Yes, it would mean having a duplicated blog on here but at least my precious comments would be saved. Yesterday, with long gaps in between, I made seven attempts to transfer my journal. Every time I received the message - error, transfer failed. I have asked for help at Magic Smoke and I can only say - fingers crossed.

On Saturday a clubhouse near us was severely damaged by fire. By the time the Fire Brigade reached it, the clubhouse was beyond saving and will have to be demolished. I remember, years ago, we had internet friends visit from America. This was long before the days of journals, this was when aol ran a penfriend system. That is how we met. Anyway, the husband was a golf fanatic and we arranged a game for him at this very course.

Him indoors took a couple of photos yesterday. The first picture is one side of the building, then you will see it from the other side.

Talking of photos does anyone know any tips for putting them on here. Yes, I know about clicking on the picture icon and adding them that way but whenever I do that, it always puts the picture at the top of my posting and not where I want it to be! I do use Photobucket but often find that the pictures appear on here far too large. This system is driving me mad quite frankly. This is the second time I have done this entry. The first time I saved it as draft as we can do on here. It confirmed that the draft had been saved. I went to make a phone call and put some washing on. When I came back and went into Dashboard to bring up the entry to finish it, I was told - You have no drafts!! Oh, how I wish aol had not made the decision to dispense with us.

Talking of aol, I have been having lots of trouble with them. I lost the internet on Saturday, back yesterday but running very slow and today I keep getting thrown off so, before I lose this entry (no intention of doing it a third time) I am going to finish here.

Wishing you all a good week.

  4. I'm glad you are have a nice day there. We are too and like you our weather will be wet and cooler by Wednesday. I've have just loved the past few days of warmth and sunshine and try to soak up as much as I can. Today I'm back to work and can only enjoy it through the office window. I'm no help with your questions as I've not mastered it either. 'On Ya' -ma

  5. Good morning, hope that Magic Smoke will be able to help you regain the lost comments. AOL was acting freaky for me too, not loading correctly, super slow, etc. I must of lost connections at least five times yesterday..I always think gremlins. Everytime they change anything this happens. I have the same problem with my Ebay store and that affects how I make money which is dreadful when that happens. How awful about that nice building burning, I love old architecture and hate to see it go that way all the memories. Take care, hoping they work it out for you...love, Sandi Oh..I tried clicking again on the little pictures of followers and it worked today..but not yesterday..go figure.

  7. Don't talk to me about AOL. I am so sorry about the clubhouse, fire is an awful way to go, such destruction :( As for photos, I've done it both on photobucket and the uplink and can't see any other way to reduce the sizing.

  8. I'm having the same problems regarding inserting a picture...it is annoying. And, another issue drives me insane...I will put a paragraph and it does not show up that way and words are just mashed together! I have gone into Edit Posts but that does not work after clicking save................Ugh.

  9. Hi Jeanette. Your blog looks very pretty. I know what you're talking about as to putting the picture where you want it to go instead of all at the top. If you find the answer, let us know. I can't get any animated pics on my sidebar and haven't had the time to try very hard to figure it out. Hope you have a great day :)......alice

  10. If you use live writer to write your entries, you can manage your pictures must better as far as where you want them in your entry. Also, you can write your entries off line, so if you get knocked off of AOL, you don't lose your entry. When your ready to publish, you hit the button, and then it transfers your entry onto your blog.

  11. What a shame the clubhouse has burned down and now to be demolished - I am sure many share fond memories of that place and it will be missed.

My mom has been losing her AOL connection and has been calling me time after time asking what is going on...shrugs shoulders...I think it is dying a slow death.

Sorry to hear you are having so many problems with your journal. Somehow I had lost you - thank goodness for Feedblitz.

  12. The Thames Chase Visitors Centre that my D'in Law worked at burnt down in the summer and they don't think it is going to be rebuilt now which is a shame. Fire is horrible.

  13. I've been on Blogger for years and that picture thing is my biggest complaint.
Did you ever read Sylvia's journal? I can't think of the name of it but I miss her and wonder if she knows her blog will be delete.

  15. Interesting post as always, Jeannette. I take comfort that you, with all your experience, are having problems - there's hope for me!
I've just re-started my blog, but was determined not to get to the headache stage. Early days yet, but I'll knock it into shape!

  18. I`m still trying to get used to this new system Jeannette, it is a real nuisance having to drag and drop everything that you upload. I haven`t transferred my old journal because I have no idea how! :o)

  19. Jeannette, I think it has to be with the template you're using. I use the ones with stretch in the title because you can put a larger photo in it.

It's a shame about that clubhouse. I hate to see things burned.

Anyway, I'm not posting right this moment in my Day in the Life. I'm using the Cabs Creations for the time being. xx
